On 28th January 2026, IIST successfully conducted a large-scale C++ programming assessment for over 700 students using ScratchBox, an AI-powered automated coding assessment platform developed by IIST students. The entire process from question generation to grading was handled by the system with zero manual intervention, showcasing the power of automation in programming assessments.
What made this initiative remarkable was ScratchBox’s intelligent AI engine, which generated multiple unique question papers, each balanced in difficulty to ensure fairness. Students wrote and submitted their C++ programs directly on the platform, which securely executed each submission and evaluated it against predefined test cases.
The online coding evaluation system provided instant feedback and real-time results, allowing students to immediately understand their mistakes. Faculty members could access assessment outcomes instantly, ensuring transparency and efficiency throughout the evaluation process.
An assessment process that traditionally takes several days of manual evaluation was completed within minutes, without compromising accuracy or academic integrity. This initiative reflects IIST’s commitment to innovative assessment methods, student-led technology development, and the integration of AI in higher education.
By leveraging ScratchBox, IIST continues to strengthen its position as a leader in engineering education and digital innovation, preparing students for future-ready, technology-driven careers.
