Indore, June 5, 2025 – Indore Institute of Science and Technology (IIST), Indore, in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with a series of impactful and awareness-driven activities on campus. Guided by the global theme “Restore Our Earth: Our Responsibility, Our Future”, and with a focused message on “Ending Plastic Pollution”, the event served as a platform to engage the academic community in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and practical green solutions.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff across various disciplines. The day began with the Green Legacy Initiative, a large-scale tree plantation drive conducted within the IIST campus, featuring native and climate-resilient species. The initiative aimed to improve campus greenery, support local biodiversity, and contribute to long-term carbon sequestration efforts. Students and faculty members joined hands in planting saplings across designated green zones, symbolising their collective commitment to a greener and healthier planet.
This was followed by War on Plastic, an intensive campaign involving awareness sessions, workshops on sustainable alternatives, plastic audits, and live recycling demonstrations. The initiative raised consciousness about plastic usage and encouraged behaviour change on campus through hands-on engagement and practical solutions.
Another major attraction was the Knowledge Leadership Forum, which brought together environmental experts, academic leaders, and student voices through motivational talks, expert panel discussions, and interactive sessions. Topics centred around climate action, policy innovation, and the role of young changemakers in leading the transition toward a sustainable future.
The event was inspired by the vision and continuous support of Mr. Arun S. Bhatnagar, Group Advisor, Sparsh Group, whose guidance remains a cornerstone of IIST’s environmental initiatives. The program was successfully coordinated by Dr. Ankit Saxena, under the mentorship of Dr. Keshav Patidar, Principal, IIST Indore, who emphasized the institute’s commitment to promoting environmental consciousness as a core value of its educational mission.
With collective enthusiasm and a sense of purpose, the campus community reaffirmed its dedication to environmental responsibility, making this World Environment Day not just a celebration but a catalyst for lasting change.
