  • IIST’s Internal Hackathon: Fostering Innovation and Future-Ready Skills for Smart India Hackathon

    On 13 September 2025, Indore Institute of Science & Technology (IIST) which is recognized among the best B.Tech colleges in Indore and one of the top engineering colleges in Madhya Pradesh organised an Internal Hackathon.The main objective of this hackathon was to select teams from the institute to represent at the Smart India Hackathon (SIH), a national-level competition organized every year by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

    More than 1,200 students participated in this preliminary hackathon, forming 200 teams of 6 members in a team (at least one female member), ensuring gender diversity and broad participation. The teams worked on various real-life and critical problem statements and presented their unique solutions and ideas. participants demonstrated not just well thought-out concepts, but also creative presentation styles, high levels of teamwork, and a strong commitment to making their ideas effective and impactfulWhile addressing the teams, the group advisor Shri Arun S Bhatnagar  emphasized that in today’s AI-driven era, students must think beyond just an engineering degree. Along with academics, it is equally important to develop practical skills, as these new skills will prepare them to face the challenges of the future.

    To evaluate and select the participating teams, the institute invited more than 20 distinguished jury members, comprising experts and entrepreneurs from different domains. The jury assessed the teams on multiple parameters, these experts assessed each idea on criteria such as originality, feasibility, technical soundness, alignment with the problem statement, presentation quality and practical applicability, etc before announcing the winners.

    In the last three years, 21 teams from IIST have secured their place in the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon, and 7 teams have won the First Prize of ₹1 lakh each, bringing pride to the city and the state. Such achievements reaffirm IIST’s position among the top B.Tech colleges in Indore and the best engineering colleges in MP, committed to nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship, and future-ready skills.
