About the Department

 

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 2003 with B.E. (CSE) with an intake of 60 students. Presently the intake is 180. It is amongst very few CSE Departments in Engineering Colleges of Central India that has been accredited twice by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in 2013 & 2016. The CSE department offers PG program in M.E. (CSE) since the year 2009-10 with an intake of 18 students. There has been consistent development in all the spheres including infrastructure, staff and student strength. Well-equipped laboratories with high-end computers, high-speed internet (Broadband and Wi-Fi) facility and well-qualified staff members ensure excellent standards of education delivered by the department. Computer Science & Engineering is a dynamic and exciting area that provides excellent career opportunities in various sectors of the society. We are committed to give our students an environment where they develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they advance through the program.

Computer Society of India (CSI)

IIST is an institutional member of CSI. Under this platform, we conduct different workshops, seminars and trainings. Computer Society of India is the first and largest body of computer professionals in India. It was started on 6 March 1965 by a few computer professionals and has now grown to be the national body representing computer professionals.

 

State of the Art Lab Infrastructure

 

  • The Department of CSE is proud to introduce two State of the Art Infrastructure starting this academic session 2018-19.
  • They are the Mac/iOS development Lab with dedicated iMac machines of 3GHZ, 1TB, 8GB Ram and Internet of Things (IoT) lab for working on Smart City Projects.

ICT support for Learning

It is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the National Mission on Education through ICT. The Department of CSE conducts virtual labs programs organized by different IITs across the country.

IIST is conducting sessions of QEEE for different subjects organized by IITs. The Committee for Reforms in Technical Education under the chairmanship of Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Madras, has been constituted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) with a mandate to bring about comprehensive reforms in technical education.

Massively Open Online Course (MOOCs) are aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as recorded lectures, readings and problem sets, many MOOCs provide interactive user forums to support interactions between students, professors and teaching assistants (TAs). MOOCs first introduced in 2008 is emerging as a popular mode of learning since 2012. Department of CSE encourages students to take MOOC once in every semester/year with the assistance of faculties to keep abreast with the latest trends in the sector.

Department of CSE has adopted Google Classroom to promote e-learning & teaching and online learning management system. Google Classroom is a blended learning platform for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. It was introduced as a feature of Google Apps for Education following its public release on August 2014. Its aim is to be a paperless educational system.

 

Message from Dean Academics & Research

 

It is high time that CS is emerging due to the IoT, Automation and Artificial Intelligence. With AI being there around the corner for more than 50 years, there is only a buzz very recently. This is primarily because of the cost cutting measures that the companies wanted to incorporate in their day-to-day activities. The Robots and the software could very well manage the repeated tasks performed by different people in the near future. With the various digital initiatives of the Government of India like Smart City, Digital India, etc. India is leading the digital revolution at the global level. However, the quality of engineers needed to implement the same is of a great concern. The focus of engineering education should be more towards practical learning that enhances the skillset of the learners. This could be achieved only with a proper infrastructure and well-qualified faculties who can lead Innovation and Research. At IIST, we are delighted to offer the state of the art platform for engaging the students in doing real-time projects that can solve the societal issues. The custom designed training courses to be offered across the years would enhance the employability of the students and make them confident enough to accept the challenges of the 21st century.

 

Note: Dr. V.R. Raghuveer has taken charge as Dean Academic and Research and Professor in CSE. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science & Engineering, Bharadhidasan University, in 2002 and M.E. Degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Anna University, Chennai in 2005. He has received PhD in CSE from the VIT University, Vellore in 2015.  He worked as an Associate Professor in VIT University for 11 years and as Dean R&D, HOD CSE at Geetanjali Institute of Technical Studies, Udaipur. He has 14 years of teaching experience and one-year of industry experience. He is academic advisor to leading North Indian Universities and Western University Colleges to implement skill training through LMS. He has presented several papers in various International Conferences and has published more than 20 papers in the reputed journals and conferences. He is a recognized research supervisor in RTU, Kota, Mewar University and Career Point University, Kota. Currently, he is guiding 2 Ph.D candidates in Artificial Intelligence domain for Healthcare and Agriculture. He has organized several workshops on Android/iOS Development, IoT, Web Designing, Big Data and Bio Informatics, Cloud   computing, etc.  He has worked on sponsored projects for the Smart City development. He has been the consultant for the design and development of two large-scale projects at VIT University, Vellore and Western University College, US for implementing their Learning Management System platform for skill training. ar B. Tech program in Computer Science & Engineering emphasizes learning of basic and advanced programming languages towards software development so that the students are skilled at designing and developing software solutions.

 

The department is wide open to innovative ideas, methodologies to establish itself as the most sought after learning center in this part of the state.  To meet the present industry demands and provide a platform to enhance the students’ employability, the department provides periodic trainings in upcoming areas like Cloud computing, IOT, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.  In addition to the course curriculum, the department organizes several student and faculty development programs time to time and provides hands-on workshops to overcome curriculum-industry gap.

 

The department has a team of highly experienced and motivated faculty members who are in the process of tuning the young minds to make them globally competitive. The excellent infrastructure and highly dedicated teaching faculty of the best kind offering quality education such as interaction among students, parents and staff along with a Training and Placement Cell ensures a bright future to its students. We are confident that our Engineers will emerge as assets not only to this institution and to the organization they belong, but also to the country at large. Note: Prof. Anil Khandekar has done B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science, Indore in the year of 2003. He completed his M.E. in Computer Engineering (specialization in Automation) from SGSITS, Indore in 2006.He has two GATE scorecards and got AICTE Scholarship for ME. Presently he is the Head of Computer Science & Engineering department at IIST, Indore. He started his career as a lecturer in IIST itself. Later on he joined ADE, Bangalore (Aeronautical Development Establishment) where he worked on area of avionics testing. He has a total of 12 years of teaching experience & two years industrial experience. He has published 15 research papers in various international journals/conferences. He has CSI membership as well as he is a Student Branch Counselor for IIST-CSI student chapter. He has attended several workshops on data mining, agile development, cloud computing and one International seminar on “Washington-Accord” in 2011. He has also attended winter school on “Software Development Techniques” conducted by IIT Mumbai and a summer school on” Data Base Management System” He guided one team of students, which got consolation prize among 300 teams in ‘RGPV CODE’ contest in 2011. He also received excellent faculty award from SRIJAN 2017. He was the overall coordinator of Computer Science & Engineering Department for NBA accreditation in 2012 and 2015. Areas of his interest are DBMS, Software Engineering, and computer Architecture.

Program Educational Objective

  • The educational objectives of the program leading to the degree Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science & Engineering are as follows.
  • PEO 1: To provide students with a solid foundation in mathematics, computer science and engineering, basic science fundamentals required to solve the computing problems.
  • PEO 2: To expose students to latest computing technologies and software tools, so that they can comprehend, analyse, design and create innovative computing products and solutions for real life problems.
  • PEO 3: To inculcate in students’, multi-­disciplinary approach, professional attitude and ethics, communication and teamwork skills, and ability to relate computer engineering issues with social awareness.
  • PEO 4: To develop professional skills in students that prepare them for immediate employment and for life­ long learning in advanced areas of computer science and related fields which enable them to be successful entrepreneurs.
