“IIST is one of the best colleges in Indore and it has fantastic infrastructure,” says Akash Garg who graduated from the institute with specialization in Electronics and Communication. It has set him on the right career path as he got placed with Genpact. Being recruited by a renowned company at the onset of his career is definitely a bright start for Akshay, who will be working as Business Developer. Here he talks about his journey from a student to being a professional with a promising career ahead of him.
“I come from a middle class family and I finished my schooling from Shri Vaishnav Academy, Indore. I had heard about the infrastructure, curriculum and free environment at IIST, which made me choose it for my engineering studies. The training I received at the institute exceeded all my expectations. Besides studies, I got several opportunities to groom my personality through extracurricular activities. Overall, I was prepared to work in the corporate world,” says Akash.
He also remains aware of the contribution of the placement cell, which was instrumental in helping him make the right decision with his career. He talks about the aptitude preparation classes in particular as they played a major role in his company selection. As a result now Aksah will be working with the reputed company in its Gurgaon office. His job responsibilities will include dealing with International clients and building good relations with the clients.
Akash understands that the road ahead will be challenging but believes that he has been prepared for it in many ways during his student years at the institute. Hence he is looking forward to what lies ahead for him “In five years time I would like to be technically sound after having learned from my experiences. I would also like to work on my marketing and managerial skills because the big dream for the future is to start my business,” he says with a lot of clarity.
He claims that he has already learned the importance of punctuality, discipline and a sense of responsibility from his training at the institute. And Akash hopes to build on the skills he has acquired while he is on the job. But he gets nostalgic looking back on his student years, which are filled with many fond memories for him. “The facilities, including the bus service, were brilliant. I also had a great time during Dazzle, Holi celebrations and tea parties in the canteen,” he recollects.
Akash believes that he has gained a lot from his time at IIST and recommends the program to future aspirants as well. “It’s a brilliant institute that gives you all the facilities to excel. Faculty members are helpful and friendly, which is a huge plus. The program can be a stepping stone into the right career,” he states. It certainly has been for the young one who believes, “There are no short cuts in life. Everything is possible; you just need to give it time.”
