Vivek Joshi’s Journey to the United States: Encouraged, Learned, Empowered

After completing primary education from a Hindi medium school, I never looked back in my career, and today give all the credit to my family and the education I received at Indore Institute of Science & Technology (IIST) in molding my career as an IT Expert. Communication skills and Personality Development play an important role in one's life and the special classes which I attended during college time made a lot of difference.

I was very creative since childhood and loved to experiment with new ideas. I used to create many science models and projects during school time and won various state and national awards in science exhibitions.

Looking at my inclination towards science, my parents encouraged me and supported my decision of doing graduation in engineering. In the year 2003, I took admission in IIST. During the four years at IIST, I learnt many new things which are required for a successful professional career. How to coordinate in an Intra and Inter collegiate events, how to lead a team and also how to manage within the limited resources are few of the many things.

I always used to share my experiences & knowledge to guide my classmates as well as juniors. All my hard work & dedication paid off when I scored 97 percentile with All India Rank 197 in GATE 2007.

It's all because of the IIST faculties, who taught the topics with practical examples, they want you to understand the logic of the subject and not just complete the course. Although on my GATE score I got a seat in IIT Mumbai & IIT Bangalore, but my zeal to learn new technologies in Computer Science made me to do MS in Computer Science instead of pursuing higher studies in pure science.

I still remember the 1st day at IIST, I was excited at the same time nervous too, but after interacting with faculty members of IIST, I was very confident. IIST plays an important role in what I am today, qualities like team work, proper communication, and management of events which is essential to be successful at work. Practical knowledge is one of the most important factors in engineering, and I still remember the day when our major project was telecasted on National News channel 'Sahara News'. We had developed a "Driver less Car"as our final year project, it took some sleepless night to design that sample car, but at the end of the day the results were fruitful. The report about our project was published in all the leading news papers of the city of Indore and was telecast on National and Local News channels. That was a life time experience for all of us to face the TV camera and share our experience.

IIST's campus recruitment is one the best in Indore, I got selected in Army, Navy and some of the private companies from campus, but I wanted to go for higher education, and got scholarship from Cleveland State University.

I recommend IIST to all the engineering aspirants, as this institute changed my way of looking at things, and I believe it is an institute that is diligent in making sure that its students leave the campus with an ambitious drive and it truly prepares students for the real-world. Currently, I am working as BI Engineer with Purch, one of the top IT companies in United States.
